What is a Groundhog? Will he see his shadow? This program is for all ages.

Program Presenter: Emily Zabusky, SOFO Environmental Educator

Join Emily in celebrating Groundhog Day by learning all about groundhogs. Groundhogs have several names, among them woodchucks and whistle-pigs. The name “whistle-pig” is due to the high-pitched whistles they emit as a warning to other groundhogs when they feel threatened. Groundhogs are members of the squirrel family, Sciuridae and belong to the group of large ground squirrels known as Marmots. Thus their scientific name is Marmota monax. As these animals are active in the daytime, you may see them along the roadside, up out of their burrows, foraging for food.

There is a $15 fee for Adults and $10 fee for children for this program. This program fee will also provide non-members with free admission to the museum on a day of their choice. Members are free.

Advanced reservations are required for all events. To register for this program, please contact us at info@sofo.org or call 631-537-9735.
