Kayak Tour Along the Riverside of the Peconic River (BYO Kayak): Adults/Children 10+
Tour Leader: Melanie Meade, South Fork Natural History Museum (SOFO) Education & Outreach Coordinator
The Peconic River winds its way for over 15 miles through the heart of Eastern Suffolk County. The middle section of the river’s long course is a hidden gem for wildlife viewing. Osprey snatch fish from the wider stretches of smooth water. Green herons lurk on low hanging branches, searching for fish. Snapping turtles poke their broad heads up, wary of the sharp-eyed kayaker. An easy, quiet water paddle, the Peconic River is truly an adventure in our own backyard. Along with your kayak, please bring water shoes, water and a snack, binoculars and cameras if you desire.
Please note that, as mandated by the latest State Executive Order regarding COVID-19 safety precautions, our outdoor nature walks are limited to a maximum of 25 people which includes our staff. SOFO will at all times follow stringent six-feet distancing separation protocols required by the Department of Health for the safety of our participants and environmental educators. We will provide masks and gloves for all attendees.
This tour is limited to 15 people. Advanced reservations are required for all events. To register for this walk please contact us at info@sofo.org. Spots will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis, and we will confirm your reservation by email.
