From May to July each year, an ancient mariner invades Long Island’s bay beaches – the Horseshoe Crab. It is an incredible sight to see these animals make their way to the shore in the moonlight to deposit their eggs in the sand. The crabs’ arrival along our shore is in tune with the migration patterns of thousands of shorebirds who depend on the Horseshoe Crab’s eggs for food. Join SOFO and Cornel Cooperative Extension Scientists on an evening beach walk and Horseshoe Crab Tagging to observe one of nature’s most amazing seasonal wildlife events.

Advance reservations are required for all events. For more information, reservations, and directions to meeting places, please call: (631) 537-9735.
