Save the Sound is a bi-state program with the singular purpose of ensuring a healthy, sustainable Long Island Sound for communities both human and wild, today and for generations yet to come.
Program Presenter: Louise Harrison. Louise is Save the Sound’s New York Natural Areas Coordinator. She is a conservation biologist who has served on Long Island in federal, New York State, and Suffolk County agencies as well as in leadership and consulting positions for not-for-profit environmental organizations. Louise has extensive field experience working in Long Island’s coastal communities and natural ecosystems, from the boroughs of New York City to the tips of the East End and has received numerous awards for open space preservation efforts. Louise lives and works in Southold.
Join us for a showing of the short film, Conservation on a Precious Island, featuring Academy Award-nominee Sam Waterston, followed by a “virtual tour” of Plum Island and its significant natural resources. Save the Sound’s Louise Harrison will share the latest news on the Preserve Plum Island Coalition’s campaign. Learn why over 100 organizations are working to protect Plum Island from private development and engage in a discussion of the latest strategies being used.
