A trip to Mecox Bay and its ocean beaches provides a wonderful opportunity to view some of the many birds that spend the winter on Long Island. Wintering loons, grebes, geese, dabbling and diving ducks, and gulls prefer our bays and ocean for finding food as well as for finding a mate to raise a family in the spring. Join Crystal as she tours the area around Mecox Bay in this beginners’ winter birding exploration. She will help you learn the basic differences between the various water birds. using their behaviors and bold feather patterns to narrow down and pinpoint each species. Having your favorite field guide to birds of eastern North America and binoculars will be very helpful. Please let us know if you need to borrow binoculars; a limited number are available.

Advance reservations are required for all events. For more information, reservations, and directions to meeting places, please call: (631) 537-9735.
