Piping plovers are an endangered bird species which breeds on the beaches of Long Island. Least terns are another protected species in New York which utilizes the beaches of Long Island to form colonies and breed. Both bird species are an integral part of our coastal ecosystems. Have you ever wondered why there is so much fencing in place keeping people out of their territories? Why they are endangered? Is there anything we can do to help? Join us for a walk to discuss these questions and more! If we’re lucky, with the aid of binoculars, we may get a chance to see young of these protected species!
Advance reservations are required for all events. For more information, reservations, and directions to meeting places, please call: (631) 537-9735.
