Zoom Presentation: Amazing Alewife with Peconic Baykeeper Peter Topping

Program Presenter: Peter Topping, Peconic Baykeeper Executive Director

Rivers and streams on Long Island once “ran silver” every spring as river herring (alewives) made their annual spawning migrations from saltwater to freshwater. Join Peconic Baykeeper Peter Topping for this presentation to learn about the history of these ecologically important fish and the efforts being made to protect their future on Long Island. The Baykeeper will additionally discuss how you can get involved in the effort to monitor local alewife populations. He will also talk about American Eels and how their story connects with that of the alewife. There will be plenty of time to ask questions about alewives and the role of the Baykeeper. This presentation is for adults, teens, and children age 5 and older
