The Black-capped Chickadee: Up Close and Personal: This program is for adults, teens, and children ages 8 and older

Walk Leader: John Turner, environmental educator, advocate, author and SOFO Board of Directors member.

The Black-capped Chickadee is one of the most popular and common songbirds on Long Island. We’ll visit the Elizabeth Morton National Wildlife Refuge in Noyac to see the species up close and personal, where a tame population of chickadees and other songbirds will feed from your hand. Please bring unsalted sunflower seeds. We’ll focus on some of the interesting aspects of chickadees, such as adaptations, that enable them to survive the winter and basic information about chickadee society”. Steady rain cancels. This outdoor nature program is limited to 20 people, so make your reservations early. This program is for adults, teens, and children age 8 and older

John has written articles for magazines including Defenders, Birder’s World, Long Island Forum, Bird Watcher’s Digest, Networking Magazine, and The Conservationist.
