Harmful Algal Blooms, Plankton Collecting, and Oyster Gardening

November 23 @ 10:30 am

Meet at the water’s edge to learn how oyster reefs and oyster community gardens are managed and maintained. See first-hand how oyster culturing systems can yield high quality protein, improve water quality, stabilize shorelines and ultimately increase marine biodiversity in our local estuaries. Also find out how harmful algal blooms adversely affect the balance in a marine ecosystem. Participants will have an opportunity to conduct water quality tests, observe plankton forms under a microscope, and assist with the maintenance of aquaculture equipment.

Program Leader: Rob “Rockfish” Gelling, SOFO Environmental Educator & Bob Tymann, South Fork Sea Farmers
