This newly published, beautifully illustrated book by Sarah B. Pomeroy and Jeyaraney Kathiritham tells the story of Maria Sybilla Merian (1647 – 1717) an intrepid natural historian and artist who found and painted the amazing flora and fauna of Indonesia in the seventeenth century. Her scientific contributions are still honored today. For a would-be boy or girl biologist or botanist, this story of her courage and adventure is an inspiration. The reading will include an exhibition of reproductions of Merian’s work, Dr. Pomeroy’s books for sale and signing, coffee and refreshments. The session will include a Spanish translation of Dr. Pomeroy’s comments and reading.
