Greenbelt Ramble through Oak-Hickory Forest and Along Coastal Plain Ponds

Join us for a 3-mile walk in the Long Pond Greenbelt through oak-hickory forest and along coastal plain ponds. Suffolk County’s Poxabogue Park, one of the first open space protection acquisitions in the Long Pond Greenbelt (LPG). Poxabogue derives its name from the Native American paugasa-baug meaning “a pond that opens out or widens”. You’ll have a chance to see Poxabogue Pond, Little Poxabogue Pond and Crooked Pond, 3 of the 13 coastal plains ponds of the LPG. Enjoy grasslands, pond shore and oak/hickory/pitch pine forest.
