Signs of spring are finally here! On a warm spring night, you can hear the unique sound of a Spring Peeper chorus. Spring Peepers (Pseudacris crucifer), one Long Island’s tree frogs, produce some of the earliest sounds of spring and for many are a sign that winter’s everlasting chill has finally come to an end. The loud, sleigh-bell chorus that we hear is how the males search for a mate. The breeding period lasts from March to June, when 800-1000 eggs per female are laid in marshes, vernal pools, and other shallow wetlands. Although very loud, these tiny frogs are rarely seen. Join Paul at dusk for a search through the wetlands in Vineyard Field behind the museum to locate this elusive chorus of frogs.

Advanced reservations are required for all events. For more information, reservations, and directions to meeting places, please call: (631) 537-9735.
