The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Region 1-Long Island, especially Eastern Long Island’s environments, includes extensive bays, estuaries and tidal wetlands. East End residents and visitors benefit from these environments for recreation, fisheries, and the nature that is a part of our community. The DEC was established to protect the environment, natural resources, and people of the State of New York through law enforcement, education, and public outreach.
