SOFO is offering a monthly program for homeschooling families with older students which will take place on the 4th Wednesday of the month at 1 pm. We will enjoy identification and classification, nature journaling, graphing and data collection at various locations on Eastern Long Island. Students are encouraged to bring their own composition notebook for journaling and notes from available field guides.

We will continue our adventures on Wednesday, October 28, at Montauk Point State Park in Montauk where we will analyze the cliffs where erosion has exposed evidence of Long Island’s formation and discover ocean life found on a rocky shoreline. With luck we will spot some seals and early-arriving winter water birds.

Program Leader: Crystal Possehl-Oakes has worked as an environmental educator at SOFO since 2005 and part-time since 2019 after her son Wyatt was born. “Wyatt and I look forward to meeting you and learning with you!”

This program is for children ages 10 and up.

There is a $10/child material fee (participating adult included) for this program. This program fee will also provide non-members with free admission to the museum on a day of their choice. Advanced reservations are required for all events.

There is also an $8 NY State Park parking fee.
