We are very happy to invite all of our members to a special members-only day at The South Fork Natural History Museum & Nature Center (SOFO) on Saturday, December 8. SOFO is a place for children and adults of all ages to discover, explore, learn, and engage.
We look forward to celebrating our members and their families who support our mission to teach and inspire all of us to become engaged and responsible caretakers of our planet now and for generations to come. Adults and children of all ages are invited. For those who have not yet joined, please fill out your membership form (attached), and bring it to our event on December 8. OUR DAY’S SCHEDULE
10am -11am Museum Open to Members-Only:
A general visit to the museum and an introduction to SOFO’s exciting new interactive shark exhibit.
11am-12pm
A Jackson Pollock Drip Painting workshop “I AM NATURE” directed by acclaimed children’s book author/artist, Joyce Raimondo, who is Education Coordinator for the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center
Create an abstract painting and express yourself as your emotions guide you.
All paint supplies and canvases will be provided
12pm – 1pm
Healing Headbands Workshop that combines the healing power of laughter and art led by Founder Barbara Grapstein
Express yourself by painting an image which is custom printed on special soft UV protected fabric, which is then sewn onto headbands.
1pm – 2pm
Decorate a Holiday Tree for the Birds
Feeding wild birds in winter is especially important in our area, where development has removed a good deal of natural winter food resources for local birds. Join us in this holiday tradition and make bird-friendly decorations for a holiday tree using seeds, suet, and dried fruits. You’ll also be able to make some of these treats to take home and use as decorations on your own “holiday tree” for the birds. Bring a shoebox to take home some of your decorations

Erik’s Reptile Edventures
With 21 years of veterinary and teaching experience, Erik Callender presents the Reptile Rescue Awareness program which features live reptiles and amphibians that were rescued from various situations. Each program is created to inspire participants to enjoy and respect nature.
