SUMMARY:Amphibian Big Night: Spotted Salamander Search & Wood Frogs
DESCRIPTION:SOFO is pleased to announce a new community environmental education and outreach initiative─Coastal Connections: Shared Shores\, Shared Futures. Don’t miss a rare opportunity to see these unique animals as they make their way to the pond to mate and lay their eggs. Please bring a flashlight and wear boots\, as late winter rains will make the ground soggy. \nWalk Leader: South Fork Natural History Museum \nThis FREE program is for all ages. Advanced reservations are required for all events. \n  \n Sign Up Here!\n

SUMMARY:Full Pink Moon Hike
DESCRIPTION:Join FLPG and SOFO on a leisurely-paced hike through open-field trails. The Pink Moon name comes from the herb moss pink\, or wild ground phlox\, which is one of the earliest widespread flowers of the spring. Other names for this month’s celestial body include the Full Sprouting Grass Moon\, the Egg Moon\, and among coastal tribes the Full Fish Moon\, because this was the time that the shad swam upstream to spawn. Join us for this leisurely paced one-hour hike in Vineyard Field\, the field behind the South Fork Natural History Museum (SOFO). \nCo-sponsored by Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt & SOFO. \nMeet at the SOFO Museum parking lot\, 377 Bridgehampton Turnpike\, 200 yards north of the RR tracks. To register\, email: greenbeltnews@aol.com. \nHike Leader: Jean McDermott\, 631-599-2391.

SUMMARY:Trade Out Your Traditional Lawns!
DESCRIPTION:Turn your grass lawn from an ecological dead zone to a thriving native plant community! \nWhile a green grass lawn looks pretty to us\, it offers very little to the insects\, birds\, frogs\, and other animals that live in our neighborhoods. As environmental concerns rise\, one way you can help at home is by diving into the world of alternative lawns! Lawn alternatives range from fields of clover to prolific fruit and vegetable gardening and can be customized to your needs and accessibility. Join SOFO educator Moe Kennedy for a presentation to learn about how you can turn your grass lawn from an ecological dead zone to a thriving community. \nProgram Leader: Moe Kennedy\, SOFO Environmental Educator \nThis program is for adults & children 10+. \nFor non-members\, there is a $15 fee for adults and a $10 fee for children for this program.
