SUMMARY:Andy Sabin’s Annual Salamander Log Rolling
DESCRIPTION:On this annual walk with Andy\, aka “Mr. Salamander\,” you’ll discover some unusual creatures that live in the leaf litter on the forest floor under the rotting logs. In particular\, he’ll introduce you to two of our unusual native salamanders: the Blue-spotted\, which can be found in its purebred form on Long Island\, only in Montauk; and the other\, the Four-toed\, whose tail drops off when it is grasped at the tail by a predator. This walk is particularly fun for children. \nWalk Leader: Andy Sabin\, President\, SOFO Board of Directors \nThis FREE program is for families\, all ages. Advanced reservations are required for all events. \n  \n Sign Up Here!\n

SUMMARY:Gardening with Insects: Pollinators\, Predators\, and Pests
DESCRIPTION:As we plant and tend to our gardens throughout the seasons\, many types of insects and other invertebrates make their homes among the petals\, leaves\, and roots. The variety of these little critters is as important as it can be problematic for both amateur and experienced gardeners alike. Now it’s up to us to determine how best to manage our insect neighbors\, and learning who’s there and what their roles are is the first step! Join SOFO environmental educator Moe Kennedy for a presentation and discussion about the insects and other invertebrates that live throughout your garden\, including pollinators\, predators\, and pests. \nPresenter: Moe Kennedy\, SOFO Environmental Educator \nCo-sponsored with Chickadeeds Community Volunteers\, Portland\, Maine. \nThis FREE program is for adults & children ages 8 and up. Advanced reservations are required for all events. \n  \n Sign Up Here!\n
