SUMMARY:Alewife Trail Walk (0.5 mile) with Peconic Baykeeper Pete Topping
DESCRIPTION:Streams and rivers along the East Coast once “ran silver” every spring as alewives and other diadromous fish made their annual spawning migrations from saltwater to freshwater. Join Peconic Baykeeper Peter Topping as we search for alewives in Southampton’s Alewife Creek. Along the way\, we will learn about the history of these threatened and ecologically important fish as well as the efforts being made to protect their future on Long Island. This will also be a great opportunity to see osprey\, herons\, and egrets\, so bring binoculars! Ticks may be present; dress accordingly. Limited enrollment. \nPhoto by Byron Young \nWalk Leader: Pete Topping\, Peconic Baykeeper \nThis FREE program is for adults and children ages 8+. Advanced reservations are required for all events. \n  \n Sign Up Here!\n

SUMMARY:Amphibian Big Night: Spotted Salamander Search & Wood Frogs
DESCRIPTION:SOFO is pleased to announce a new community environmental education and outreach initiative─Coastal Connections: Shared Shores\, Shared Futures. This one-year collaborative effort with Chickadeeds\, a volunteer organization located in Portland\, Maine\, delivers hands-on\, accessible environmental education and stewardship programs to residents in both communities.
