Hike Leader: Ashley Federici, South Fork Natural History Museum (SoFo) Nature Educator
The East End of Long Island is known for its beautiful beaches, but there’s another distinctive and important habitat to be explored—the Pine Barrens. The Pine Barrens are Long Island’s only remaining true wilderness, covering 100,000 acres of land. This area first became protected in 1993, in order to safeguard the thousands of plant and animal species that call the Pine Barrens home, many of which are endangered or threatened. Come along with Ashley to walk, talk, and explore this remarkable ecosystem.
Advance reservations are required for all events. For more information, reservations, and directions to meeting places, please call: (631) 537-9735.
